Derby Festival 133 is being held on Saturday, May 5, 2007, at Louisville's Churchill Downs. I will be there, and so will the Queen of England! Security is to be enforced to ensure the Queen's comfort at this exciting horse race. Although I may not be rubbing elbows with the Queen, I will be in the stands.
I waited in line all night in the cold rain a few weekends ago at Churchill Downs. For the first time, Churchill Downs offered two tickets to the stands to the first 500 people in line. There were five of us huddled together under a tarp, sitting on a raft used in a swimming pool, waiting from midnight until we finally received our tickets at 9 a.m.
It was quite an experience, and I can say although I will always remember the night, I will not be doing it again! Unless it is a warm, clear evening! After a warm meal at Waffle House my roommate and I finally went to sleep at 11 a.m. We awoke feeling rested, and excited about our tickets.
I've always gone into the infield with my girlfriends, but this year we are going to wear the big hats, pretty dresses, and heels. It should be an interesting and different experience. I'll let you know if I see Queen Elizabeth.
